Thread: Problem with unread posts

As an everyday ritual, I like to log on to this site and slowly watch all the red MR's turn into grey ones. Quite satisfying! But, sometimes I don't have time to read them all in one sitting, so I come back later and everything is greyed out, as if I had already read them! And I miss some posts that I haven't read yet, besides the satisfaction of having read all the reds!(pardon the pun) It's quite dissapointing. Is this something with my browser? Do you know how I can fix it?

I have the same problem, and it's very frustrating !

Once I was thinking this problem over and came to the following conclusions:
1)When you connect to the forum the red topics are those that had some new posts since your last disconnection.
2)When you disconnect, the system "thinks" that you've read all the unread topics (even if in reality you haven't) and so when you connect the next time they will be grey unless the new posts were added to them while you were disconnected.

But I think that it was meant to be this way (of course, it's very inconvenient) because on some other forums with similar interface I noticed the same behaviour so I don't think it has something to do with our browsers.

Of course I may be mistaken because I'm no specialist, just wanted to share my experience and observations.

I have noticed the same phenomena when opening a second browser of masterrussian.net, say if I am replying to one thing but I need to quote another post Yes, I am that obsessed with MasterRussian.

Friendy is right. It simply checks your last login date and displays any message newer than that timestamp as unread. Let's call this LOGIN A. If you log out and log in again then this would be LOGIN B. But your last login date now will be the date from LOGIN A, so only those messages which are newer than that will come up orange.

I think that explains everything, thanks Mike.

Besides that, have you guys tried using "View posts since last visit" link? I use it all the time.
