I've added a chat bar to the forum (bottom right corner). How do you like it?

Ok, I am chat ignorant. I like the idea as I hopped on for a second and saw two questions and was able to quickly help two people. HOWEVER.... when I logged out the chat was still there and I could not figure out how to make it go away. I kept hitting the little Xs and it kept coming back. I also don't want to chat with people all the time. How do I be on MR and not be seen as available to chat??? I mean, if I can help someone great or if I need a question answered no problem... but I'm not the chat type of person... It's too hard for me sometimes to keep track of the conversations and how I am speaking to... I don't even do FaceBook or Skype. Maybe with time this old dog can learn some new tricks...

It's easy to turn off if you don't want to use it. Click the cogwheel icon in the window that lists all the users. Then select "Turn off". The chat will remain off even if you revisit the forum.

Doesn't work on a mobile phone. I can see the chat, I can enter a string into the edit line, but can't submit it (neither in the bottom of the page nor in a separate window). The phone has a touchscreen (no real buttons) so it needs the visual submit button.

Another point is that the chat now causes the phone to reload the forum page quite frequently and this in turn leads to repainting the forum page totally every few seconds. (It repaints the whole page not only the chat sub-window). This makes reading the forum posts quite boring.

I turned it off for mobile.

When I tried to launch the chat its told me = Chat full.. please upgrade this and gave me a link on chat's site.. о_О

Ahhh. it is a two step process here... you have to click on the green plus sign first and that opens up yet another chat window and in THAT window click on the cogwheel and turn off the chat.. got it.

Now what if I don't mind seeing the chat but I just don't want my name listed as being online? Example... I see the chat and really don't want to get involved but then I do see a question I can quickly answer so I figure.. okay I'll hop on ans answer it and then hop off again. Any way of just not having your name as being online?

Is it possible to have a blog of the chat?

I'm always alone in the new chat.

If you turn the chat off, your name shouldn't be seen online and nobody can chat with you.

It's possible but I just find it strange that someone will be reading past chats. You can read the latest history in the chat window.

I work on Ipad but cannot find any chat buttons or whatever..... Don't I search enough or doesn't chat works on Ipads?? Perhaps due to switching of mobile??

It's disabled on mobile because CoffeeCup reported that it didn't work well on mobile devices.

However it was disabled I can still see it on my mobile with "opera mobile" browser.

I use phone too. Nokia + opera mobile. But I don't see chat...

Is there a slight possibility that chat for mobile devices ( e.g. Ipad), will return?? Was extremely nice and comfortable. Don't like to work on the big wardrobe (desktop) anymore......
