The ability to edit/delete posts can be configured.

I would like to ask a question in return. In what situations is deleting posts justified, especially when it's the first post in a thread? Is it fair to other users to delete a post which they replied and quoted in response? If you posted something you regret, wouldn't it be more reasonable not to post it to begin with?

    Just looking for your feedback.

In another forum I frequent, people routinely delete their answers if someone else has replied sooner of better. This is done to avoid cluttering a thread with redundant information. It is not required, but it is a sort of an unwritten etiquette rule there. But then, that other forum is much busier, and an interesting question sometimes gets 3-4 almost identical answers in a matter of minutes if several persons type their answers at the same time.

still don't see that...where is it relative to the "Edit Post" button with the little pencil?
    thanks
edit: ok i see it, maybe you can't cancel an initial topic post like you could on the old forum.

why delete...suppose you start a thread then quickly find the answer and don't want to waste people's time answering.
...suppose you didn't like the way you worded a reply
...suppose you realized you made a mistake in your reply
