Note also: толджа ("told you"), гатча ("got you"), диджа ("did you"), and уайджа ("why did you?"), among other examples.
In Baltimore (where my mother was born), people will ask: Джит лан чет? ("Did you eat lunch yet?"). To which one can answer: Ноу, джу? ("No, did you?") -- there's a famous comedy where a Jewish character is speaking to a person with a "Baltimore accent" and takes offense -- he hears it as "No Jew"!
But in other parts of the US, people would be more likely to pronounce "Did you eat?" as Диджа ит? (with three distinct syllables), not Джит?
