"Ты хочешь здесь остаться?"
(........and apologies in advance, I don't even know whether I'm spelling it right as I'm at work and don't have a single book at hand....)
I came across this sentence today - bravely uttered by an actor who doesn't speak a word of Russian (poor bugger ), and immediately tried to do better (hehe).
I couldn't. :P
(well, not a lot better anyway  )
Native speakers: would a native speaker contaminate the -шь and the з- ? Or would you really pronounce them separately? (please say no  )
Hellishly difficult.
Couldn't I just change it into "Ты хочешь остаться здесь?"

I'd pronounce them separately.

You can, but first variant is more common, and these two variants have slightly different meanings: "Ты хочешь здесь остаться?" stresses "остаться" while "Ты хочешь остаться здесь?" stresses "здесь".
"Ты хочешь здесь остаться?"
Thanks, guys. :)
Vesh - yes, I did think there'd be a difference in meaning, but both were possible in this case.....
Seeing that you don't seem to agree on linking the sounds or not ( thank heavens it's not only a toughie for an old foreigner like me  )..... anyone willing to give it a go in the audiofiles section?
