    дождь

    Is this word a "You Say Tomato, I say Tomato" word for Russians? I noticed that @ дождь pronunciation: How to pronounce дождь in Russian that people pronounce it two different ways some without the дь is it a regional thing?

    Personally me always say "дошть" and all of my people say the same, but an older people often say "дощщ" and it's ok (for example - "king of russian pop scene" Филипп Киркоров - Полетели - YouTube). Yes it's some kind of regional accent (i think it's rather an Ukranian speaking way than Russian one)

    1) "дощ" - это старомосковская норма. как и произносить "шн", когда пишется "чн", например.

    2) Фасмре пишет, что это по-украински:
    дождь,
    Ближайшая этимология: род. п. -дяґ, прилаг. дождевоґй, укр. дощ, др.-русск. дъжгь (новгор., псковск.). Из *дъжджь, ст.-слав. дъждь Фmbroj, ШetТj, болг. дъждъґт, сербохорв. да?жд, род. п. да°жда, словен. dЌ°јdј, др.-чеш. de«‰, чеш. de«t', слвц. daјd', польск. deszcz, в.-луж. deґ«cґ, н.-луж. de(j)«cґ.

    Songs are not a good example as singers pronouce words as the rythm demands.
    I'd say that those people who need words they pronounce to be clear and easy to understand pronounce word as "дошть" (in the big cities usually, due to the type of work people do there), and those for whom words are not "work equipment" pronounce it as "дощ" (in the country).

    Да он всю жизнь в России же, мне кажется у него типично мааасковский акцент.
