Thread: Muscovite Accent?

I'm wondering if any of you Russian natives can pin down where this guy may be from in Russia...the rapper Shilo from Krovostok.

Of course, I think he's trying to sound Muscovite...

My ear isn't well attuned enough yet to hear...I know about akanje and other regional variations...

I mean, can you tell about accent when performers are singing/rapping? In English, singers tend to "middle-out" and sound basically the same accent-wise as other performers in their genre...sometimes I think British rock acts I've never heard of are American, for instance...but I can usually tell what's Southern hip hop and what's East Coast or West Coast based on manner of speaking.

Is this a case in which all "mat," "sleng" and "blat" sounds the same coast to coast? Can you tell?

PS There's lots of "mat" so Russian speakers beware (Ol'ga).

Речитатив часто скрывает акцент. Здесь всё звучит обычно, по-московски, имхо.

I think you mean "okanke". Akanje is pronouncing unstressed O like an A, which is "standard Russian" (i.e. Muscovite) pronunciation. Pronouncing unstressed O like O is "okanje", verb "okat'".

It's considered, that akanye of the "real" Muscovites is more pronounced than of your average Russian, thus it's considered a regional (Mocsow) accent. I must admit, though, that this difference is often hardly noticable or non-existent.

What's about the song, the guy seems to have a rather standard pronounciation without any noticable regional accent.
