Hi Scott!
Well, the more i was listening to your recording the more I was wondering at how this extraordinary result could have been achieved!
All that I'd suggest you do is just work on the quality of some sounds: for example, make ж and ш harder as in женщины (you tend to pronounce them soft as in English), these 2 sounds are always hard. This is what I hear in your recording at once. All the rest is difficult to trace, for you are really good.
It's worth noting also that there are several punctuation and orthographic mistakes in the text, like absence of a 'dash' before Пирогов, and that you quickly made it clear by correct intonation, which makes one believe your command of Russian is at a very high level.
Finally, your intonation is very close to Russian. I don't know what to advise here. Actually, in my modest experience so far you are the best foreign speaker of Russian I've ever heard.
So, there is always something to improve. If you want to sound even more better, you might listen to some interviews in Russian or TV programs or something similar where you can hear slow and distinct speech. (sometimes it's better, of course, to find something with a script).
It seems you are very optimistic about learning Russian. I hope you can find quite a few tips here on this site.
Good luck with your Russian!
They are just always hard.these 2 sounds are always hard, unless they are followed by мягкий знак
Your Russian pronunciation is very good, close to native. You tend to soften ш, ж. They must be velarized. щ is not soft enough either.
ГлЯдя, счАстлива. Оперный, not Опэрный. Some soft R seemed hard to me, when I listened attentively, like приезжал, прекрасный. Разве я смогу петь в опере? It's not clear what word is in question. You should have raised the intonation on у in смогу. Как ты считаешь? The stress and rising intonation should be on как. Знаю, читал ваши произведения. There should be a pause between знаю and читал.
There were extra pauses, but it was connected with reading.
How did you achieve such results? My English pronunciation is much worse.
