i have doubts with Russian accents and letter...

i'm new in this forum and i have some doubts as the Russian pronunciation.
(my english is very bad :wall:, don't observe my english, please).

1º how can i pronounce the letter ы? (this is my biggest problem to pronounce some words in Russian) if somebody could show me some videos, it's showing how i speak, i'd be happy.

2 my other doubt is :
in the letter 'о', i learned that can be pronounce how 'a' in some words, but also can be 'o', then
how do i know if it's pronounced like 'a' or 'o'? (my english is very bad:shout:)

In unstressed syllables the letter "о" is pronounced as "а". But it is not a firm rule, this depends on dialect.

then , It´s all the same if i pronounce молоко like > moloko and malako.

and (absolutely my english is very bad) how do i pronouce the word джинсы (jeans)?? because i did'nt understand LIKE the letter ы is pronounced in a Russian words.

should sound like - djinsi

hmm, then ы in a word sound always like `i`? or not?

other thing, in word семь (SEVEN) , how do i speak this word? what is the sound of ь ??

Letter "ь" does not makes its own sound. Normally it modifies the consonant sound of the previous letter (makes it palatalized or "soft"). Looks like you need some very basic textbook.

Letter "Ы" roughly is the same as "И" but "И" palatalizes previous consonant while "Ы" does not.

It is very difficult to describe pronunciation by written text, better is to hear. There were some sites, which provide sound play for the pronunciation of words. Maybe someone can give a reference.

I believe it's generally considered much better to use vowel reduction (unstressed о/а to ə, unstressed е to и), I have been told that not using vowel reduction is sometimes considered "uneducated".

EdwardElric -- don't you have a textbook of Standard Russian that describes these things? I can't imagine a textbook that does not explain the pronunciation of O in stressed and unstressed positions.

Hey, why don't you try this site's free pronunciation lessons and examples. Like 1000 most common Russian words or Russian alphabet with sounds... ?

then, i heard some words but some words don't have sounds

I don't think that sound exists in Portuguese. For me it was helpful to hear that it is pronounced in the same way as "y" in Swedish, or "i" in a particular dialect.
But if it is confusing, just prounounce it as "i" until you figure it out.

If you don't have a book with audio then I think you should by one. If you can't afford to buy then just download on Bittorrent. I don't think that in this day and age somebody should try to learn a language without audio material.

I've noticed several funny things in this vid, like it's annoying when they give a sample word for a sound but the sound is unstressed in the word, therefore - slurred/dimmed/whatever. Like И -> индюк etc. But all in all it's not bad.

yes, in portuguese don't have some sounds, for exemple the sound of the letter Ж , we have the reference of the word in english "pleaSUre"

yeah, i saw, but there only the 50 first words have sounds.

then right, here in Brazil , we don't use the Skype, we use the messanger or colloquialy called of MSN.
