    I don’t understand your logic.

The logic makes sense if you don't understand the word книгочей

Hm, it might be. But it is still looking loose without proper explanation.

    1. Usually we write книгочей (stress книгочЕй) but we say "knigachei" (also stress книгочЕй).
    2. Книгочей = книг (book) + о (connecting vowel) + читать (to read)
самолёт = сам (himself) + о (connecting vowel) + лететь (to fly) = aircraft
вертолёт = вертеть (to rotate) + о (connecting vowel) + лететь (to fly) = helicopter

    you are welcome

    1. I mean that "knigochay" is a compound word. It derives from "книг + о (connecting vowel) + читать".
We write "книгoчей" whereas we pronounce "knigachey".

    2. And there are other compound words resembling “книгочей” in this rule, eg. "самолёт" and "вертолёт". That's why I was writing about them. I believe that you can see the resemblence:
(i)"самолёт" derives from "сам + о (connecting vowel) + лететь".
We write "самолёт" and we pronounce "samalyot".

(ii) "вертолёт" derives from "вертеть + о (connecting vowel) + лететь".
We write "вертолёт" and we pronounce "vertalyot".

    You are welcome
