US High Schools & World History - take a look and play along!

New school year, new class. This year it is AP World History and it is 11th grade.

The text book can actually be found online, A History of the World in Six Glasses at Amazon or you can find it online for free in PDF if you Google it.

I do think this group would do very well with answers for the first assignment: :beer:

Read the introduction and chapters one and two of the book on the importance of beer to early farming societies. Answer the following questions in paragraph format {typed} – a response should not be longer then ½ page. Cite passages from the book when you directly use information.

Questions:
1. Explain how the ingredients needed for beer is related to humans changing from a hunter gather lifestyle to settled communities.

2. A major concept for the first unit is that the agricultural revolution led to the developments of new and more complex economic and social systems. How did beer play a part in the development of a more complex economic system? Be sure to include info on taxes; payment for services; and role of government.

3. How did the introduction of beer lead to advancements in agricultural technology?

4. How did beer help to organize society? Your response should include information on accounting and writing.

5. What were the cultural impacts of beer? Your response should include religious rituals; nourishment and social interaction

Not ingredients only. Processing barley into malt, extracting, etc. Not suitable to moving around while in process, nor for storage.

All questions about civ and beer are somewhat tongue in cheek, because the real driver is bread, and all the requirements for bread allow one to make beer as well. Crop => must water, protect from animals, weed, etc. => must be present in stable protectable community. Crop cycle, grain product, only works by having sufficient or excess => granaries, must be able to store lots of dried grain and protect from competitors, animals, elements etc. With crop capability and storage, and community, you can then have bread year round. And beer. Can't get to first base without some sort of stable residence, or community, in order to get crop. Then must protect from competitors, animals etc. To get malt/beer the stable residence/community has to be in place first. Because you need stored grain, and facilities to process into malt, extract, etc. You only get the beer if all else is in place first. (haven't mentioned barley, wheat differences, but yes you can malt wheat)

By any chance, does anyone have any suggestions that could help her to learn the maps and such? She needs to learn by Wednesday:

1. Familiarize yourself with and be able to locate the following items on a map of the Eastern Hemisphere.
Regions – Mesopotamia; Fertile Crescent; Southeast Asia; South Asia; East Asia; Middle East; Far East; North Africa

Bodies of Water- Indian Ocean; Pacific Ocean; Atlantic Ocean; Mediterranean Sea; Red Sea; Indus River; Tigris River; Euphrates River; Ganges River; Nile River; Huang He {Yellow} River; Yangzi River; Bering Strait

Landforms – Sahara Desert; Himalayan Mountains

Countries – Egypt; India; Iraq; Iran; China; Indonesia; Afghanistan

Do a little bit memorizing? If she starts now or within a few hours from now she must've been able to handle this by Wednesday.

yes, yes... it's is just that for this one class, she has to read more than 50 pages of text and summarize it into Cornell Notes to turn in for a grade, write a 500 word essay, answer the above beer questions AND learn the map stuff ALL by this Wednesday. And she has six other classes, and of course, she has homework in those classes as well.

So I was just seeing if anyone in this oh so wise group might have a suggestion other than straight memorization like a mnemonic devise or a poem or short story they learned that will help her to remember where things are on a map.
