Independence Day. It is the day the Russian Federation signed the declaration of sovereignty.
Oh right. Cool!!!
Isn't Babushka grandmother?
I remember that girl I know who is Russian yelling Babuyla! into my ear and her cousin yells Babushka! into the other.
Yes, Babushka is grandmother. Why were you being yelled at??
I wasn't being yelled at, the girls were yelling for their grandma to give them five more dollars so we could order pizza from Papa Johns. This was on a sunday a couple weeks ago.
Oh right!!! LOL
BABUYLYA!!!! GDYE TYI!!! BABULLLLL!!!

I'd just be happy to get a day off 8) And plus *every* country has to have an independence day!
When did Russia become independent? When the USSR broke up or is this something recent? What was the Warsaw pact
BABULLLLLLL!!! I miss u!! Where'd u go??
Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin initiated the holiday in 1994 to commemorate the Russian parliament's declaration of sovereignty from the Soviet Union on June 12, 1990.
Originally known as Independence Day, the holiday was later renamed and transformed into a celebration of Russia itself and the unity of the huge country.
Cribbed from a Chinese website!
Official version was that Russia became independent from Soviet Union... Sounds ridiculous. Russian state exists since 9th century, Kievan Rus, Moscovy, Russia, Russian Empire, Soviet Russia, Soviet Union and Russian Federation are only different forms of this state... So, to become independent from our own state, from ourselves... it's very funny :) I think it's right that it was recently renamed to "Day of Russia". At least it's day off and every country have something like that... :DQuote:

Да, бабуля, как не стыдно кидать родного внука на произвол судьбы!
It's not ridiculous. If "Russia" and "Soviet Union" are considered to be different states, it may be logical. But if Yeltsin politics were more consistent here, he should also declare total indendence from old Soviet'sQuote:
