I never heard of slaves being tarred and feathered. AFAIK, that pleasure was reserved for whites.

Do you know that Russian white supremacists and racists should had gone unchecked if not for Putin. Well then, I guess she must have been famous around Europe. I saw some posters of her a while ago at a "retro" cafe in Italy. So far as I understand it, she got put in prison simply because whe was a communist.

I know of her because a woman in my neighbourhood when I grew up was called "Red Angela" - she was some kind of political activist who dressed like a hippy. My mother explained that she was called so because of this American woman; she had the same hairstyle. Plus Angela Davis was mentioned at Uni - I think she was actually some kind of political philosopher. I wonder what became of her..

By the way, after the song ends you can see two hosts. The male is also a popular singer, who's famous for his escapades. He had a black eye at the time (youtube video quality is not good enough to see it), which contrasted nicely with his tuxedo, and the girl got drunk toward the end of the show. All in all, it was a merry New year.

The other songs were very interesting too - the idea of the show was to ivite various singers and actors of different ages and preferences, and to make most unusual duets of them.

I wonder what became of her..

Now I do too. I'm definitely going to dig up some info on her.

Впоследствии выяснилось, что Хайдер жульничал — тайком пил фруктовые соки и ел витамины: продержаться на одной воде и морской соли 218 дней невозможно. По мнению самых скептически настроенных медиков, голодал он только днем.

В общем-то я не считаю это жульничеством, если учесть, что голодовка длилась 7 месяцев! А витамины многие "голодающие" принимают. Другое дело, если он по ночам пробирался к холодильнику. ))

Да нет, если верить статье, на которую я привела ссылку (а я склонна ей верить), Х. утверждал, что пьет только теплую воду и дважды в неделю ест морскую соль. Из-за чего впоследствии и стал посмешищем (заврался).

Don't remember that Doctor that BappaBa mentioned, (seems good though!) but now that we are talking about such people, does anybody remember a little American girl with pigtails who went to USSR a few times as some kind of peace ambassador... ?

I think she was a year or two older than me, and she made a terrific impression. This must have been mid 1980s or so and she was perhaps 12 years old. She was often featured on "children's news" in Sweden. For some reason she travelled to the USSR and stayed at a childrens camp (which is what made an impression on me as a kid - very well-equipped facility...). Then she got back to the US and worked to promote peace. She gave some speeches etc. Would be interesting to find out what she's doing now. Does the story ring any bells with anyone?

Yeah! Wow you've got great memory. How spooky that she died in a plane crash. I mean, what are the odds?! What a terrible tragedy for the mother in the family who survived.
How tragic! I would have thought she'd be working at the UN right now, or something like that.

I remember her visit in USSR.
She was killed in an aircrash along with his father. Many thought that the crash was arranged.
