Thread: The Presidential Election, March 14, 2004

As most of you know, on March 14 we're going to elect the president of Russia (only don't tell me you know his name, I know that you know ). I think it would be fun to hold "mini-election" on MasterRussian.net. So let's imagine that every forum user has a right to vote. I also think that it would be sensible to separate the votes of Russian and non-Russian citizens.

When does Ukraine vote? Does Ukraine vote at the same time? Im not a Russian citizen though, Im a Ukrainian citizen.

I don't know when, but not at the same time, and of course the candidates will be different.

I don't want to vote for 'the Man' .. because obviously he'll win and that's not interesting..
and I don't want to vote for the guy who goes off on 'holiday' for a week and then changes his story and forgets where he was ..
but unfortunately i can't find any information in English about the other candidates. Anyone got a nice link?

I only heard of Putin. Didn't he fire his entire government and replace them?

I don't know much about any of these candidates, except for Putin. Why did he fire his whole cabinet? (Do you use the word cabinet in Russian, or is it better to just say government?)

We say government правительство.
It's just a technical thing. The government must quit after presedential elections according to the law, so Piting started forming new government now.

I've voted for Putin but speaking frankly I don't know to whom I'll vote for in elections I see only 2 contenders - Putin and Glazyev. I read some Glaziev articles last year and his ideas are good for Russia.

President appoints ministers and he can fire them in any moment according to our Constitution. I have only one question: Why didn't he fire Kasyanov one year ago, when he already was enough independent from Yeltsin's "family" to do that?

P.S. Why don't anybody ask why Yeltsin fired four governments in 1998-1999? Putin's one fired government in four years doesn't look so impressive on that background.

P.P.S As for this poll, I've voted for Glaziev. Oil/Gas/Energy must be controlled by state!
