    Kasparov

    Hello!

I was wondering what you Russians (and non Russians) think of the Kasparov's supposedly presidential ambitions? I heard he is vehemently anti-Putin (or is he?), what political platform does he stand for and what is his views? Would you vote for him (vs a potential Putin nominee/Putin himself)? He was demonstrating outside Khodorkovsky's trial as far as I remember...

i heard he got beaten by some cops outside of the protest. Pretty funny. Just the thought of some grand master chess player getting clubbed around a llittle bit.

He may be a diva on the chessboard, but as a politician he's total loser. This is what the NAROD say.

I wonder, why you think the choice is between Kasparov and "potential Putin nominee/Putin himself"? How about some other (e.g. better) options to choose?

    As for me:
    1) I'm about to vote for Dmitriy Rogozin -- or, if he's not to be candidate on next election, for any politican with similar platform;
    2) If I'm really faced with your (really weird) choice, I'll vote for "Putin nominee/Putin himself" -- because it's better, than voting for Kasparov.
    Hope this answers your question.

Before collapse of the USSR (in 1991 or 1990) Kasparov took part in one chess tournament and made a row. He put on his table flag of “independent Russia” (instead of the flag of the USSR as according to the law!!!). And this flag of “independent Russia” was hanged up head over heels. ))))))))))
This act marked Kasparov for me as unacceptable figure.

I see! What political platform does Kasparov stand on? Yabloka-ish?

    Who is Dmitry Rogozin?

This is all very interesting to me! I appreciate all feedback!

JJ, send me also that answer

I like him, anything that gets up the knuckle-dragging Homo Soveticus' nose is OK in my book.

As for what he stands for, doesn't seem to me like he stands for much except getting rid of Putin in 2008.

I absolutely agree with Robert Fisher, read his interview in Russian:
    http://www.compromat.ru/main/sport/kasparovfish.htm

    about Kasparov:

scotcher, how come you have a grudge against the Homo Soveticus? I thought you were married to a Russian woman. We're all Homo Soveticae (sorry, didn't do latin at school - how do you build plural from this one?), including your wife and your in-laws. There's nothing wrong with being a Homo Soveticus. Homo Soveticae have gone into space, Homo Soveticae have written books, Homo Soveticae have composed music, Homo Soveticae have cured people... Not everybody was born a Homo Scotum.

Bobby Fisher is the well-known hysteric man. I don't think that we must listen to him. But I agree, Kasparov is trying to take not his place.
My English isn't so good, зато с русским все в порядке ))

I think we must have different definitions of homo sovieticus. The way the term was explained to me, none of my family qualify, and very few of my Russian friends do either (though there are a couple who do).

Definitions aside, I'll let you to figure out what I understood it to mean for yourself.

Yes I wouldn't take the opinion of our friend Bobby Fisher, he is extremely paranoid. What is it with grandmasters in chess and, dare I say it, mental problems?

This is the very word ("paranoid") that kept popping up in my mind as I was reading the article .
"Happy new year, happy new year

Of a world where every neighbour is a friend"
