Relations Between Russia and the Pacific Rim

Can someone tell me about Russia's relations with Japan, China, and Australia? I am not knowing about their relations.

    Officially - good relations.
With Australia - it is fine.
Japan - problems with Kuriles. Personally I against homing these islands of Japan.
For China a problem of overcrowding. China executes latent expansion on the Russian terrain. Some experts consider{count}, that hereafter (through 10-20 flying) the armed conflict of Russia with China is possible{probable}. If to the that moment the USA will not attack Russia or China.

    To Ger:

English is considered as interenational language —

    I'm counting crows —

    Possible - возможно, осуществимо
I think it's possible —

Probably he is not an Englishman —

About Japan: as Ger said, there's still a problem of 4 northern Kuril islands, which were annexed by Soviet Union as the end of WWII. Japan just wanting them back. (That is the reason, why Japan always refused to sign peace treaty with SU, and then with Russia. So, from formal point of view, Japan and Russian Federation... are still in the state of war. Good relations, aren't they? )

About China: mostly relations are normal, but there are also some territorial contradictions (several islands on Amur river). Speaking about the future, some analists think about China as of a potential threat, most do not. I don't think China is real threat (if they want to conquer eastern Siberia, they perfectly could do it 2000 years before Russia started to exist )

About Australia: they are OK, if there are actually much of relations. It's a bit too far.

I wish Australia did have relations with Russia. I think we are basically neutral to each other.

    kuriles

    hmm...

    Russians, is that so?

Aren't the Kuriles smack in the middle of Ainu territory (indigenous of Hokkaido in Japan, Sakhalin in RusFed). Or could there possibly be another eastern people indiginous to the place, I don't know. Anyways, it's definitely neither ethnic Russians nor ethnic Japanese that's the original people there.

So if there's actually a majority of Russian Russians there, what happened to the Ainu (or whatever) could someone please enlighten me? Minoritized? Russianized? Stalinized to a small community in Western Sibieria? Killed?

    Re: kuriles

This topic has been dead a little while But I thought it was pretty interesting too.

I searched around on the net a little bit. Most of the websites having anything about it said that before the war the Kuril Ainu were moved to Hokkaido, and that after the war most of the Sakhalin Ainu moved to Hokkaido. There are supposedly still some native peoples on Sakhalin island. Remember that there weren't that many people living on the islands by the time WWII started(so a big influx of Russians could easily make them the minority).

The Ainu people themselves interest me. Their language is linguistically unrelated to Japanese or anything in the area, I've heard(and ethnically they are distant from other East Asian peoples, this website says they have even been classed as "Caucasoid" or "Australoid"). However I assume that within a decade or so they will have all but dissapeared. Perhaps they are related to the native peoples of Kamchatka?

    ainu and such

Yes, maybe they are Kamchatka-related... Though I've heard they're linguistically Sino-Tibetan (Japanese, Mandarin etc). But I could be wrong.

If they've been moved, or moved on their own, to Japan - then they probably don't have any future in the RF no matter what land claims they make. But the Ainu of Japan, I think will survive (though maybe not their language). A delegation of them came to Troms
