    утро

I'm not sure about the genitive plural case of the word: утро.

Following the rule of the "two final consonant in the word-root", it could be: утер.
I.e.: несколько утер. Is this correct?

    Thank you very much.

Firstly IF it were to have a fill vowel it would be
утор (е is the soft variant)

However the acutal gen plu as Indra said is Утр

Remember, there is no "two consonant" rule, it's a guideline.

Thank you very much, Indra and Tatu.
I was confused reading the following statements, from a book of russian gramatical models:

“The neuter nouns with ending –o which have two or more consonants before –o, one of which is г, к, have zero-ending in the gen plu, but an –o appears before the final consonant. i.e.: окно → окон“

”The neuter nouns with ending –o which have two or more consonants before –o, one of which is м, н, р (such as утро), л, have zero-ending in the gen plu, but an –e appears before the final consonant. i.e.: письмо → писен”

Yes, these are probably guidelines and not rules.

    Re: утро

That's one of those words that you'd better not use in this form. Even though утр might be correct it sounds awkward. It's weird that you can say пять дней, пять вечеров, or пять ночей and they all sound perfectly fine, but пять утр just doesn't sound right, so you will never hear it in real speech...

Hmmm, I didn't remember the rules, so I thought it was Е if soft, and O if hard.

E.g. in Письмо the s is soft, therefore E is used.

Also the spelling rules apply, e.g.
Девушка - Девушк - Девушек (you can't have an unstressed O after Ш)
