You can say:
- Мы ходили по музеям;
- Мы сходили в музей;
- Мы ходили в музей;
but "Мы сходили по музеям" is not correct.

John, not necessarily. It strict sense yes, but it may be used emphatically to mean just one girl.... And BTW.. there's an expression ходить/сходить по мужикам.. also it should be said that these exressions are a bit low style, i mean, it's used either as a joke or by someone who apparently couldn't find a more elegant way of saying it, which there are a lot.
