    совместный брак

Что такое "совместный брак"? Чем отличается от брака?
    Спасибо!!

Собственных детей в совместном браке Наталья и Андрей иметь не могут.

It is not well-worded, and a broader context could help. I can only guess that the person who wrote it meant that if Natalia and Andrey are married, they can't have children together, as opposed to the situation when Natalia marries another man and Andrey marries another woman. Since Natalia and Andrey are in the focus of the narrative, a "совместный брак" would be a marriage involving both of them - i.e. the marriage between those two. But, as I said, it is not well-worded and sounds pleonastic to me.

ok, thx. The context doesn't shed any more light on the situation. I thought it might have some meaning as "совместном браке" got 36,000 hits on google.

    Re: совместный брак

In most cases it's enough to say "брак" (marriage). "Совместный брак" is used to stress that the marriage is between those two people in question (but it sounds rather formal).

    eg.
Гадалка сказала, что Антон и Таня будут несчастливы в браке = A fortune-teller said that Anton and Tanya will be unhappy in marriage (it's unclear what marriage is meant)
Гадалка сказала, что Антон и Таня будут несчастливы в совместном браке ~ A fortune-teller said that Anton and Tanya will be unhappy if they marry each other
