Thread: Сей?

What's up with this pronoun? I guess it's must often seen in до сих пор, but when do you use it? Is it old? Completely synonymous with Этот? Literary? Неграммотный? I just saw it in this context:
"Вы узнаете сию даму?"

Yeah, it's archaic Russian for "this". Do you recognize it in this word?
Сейчас! (сей час = this hour = right now)

It is old, it is completely synonymous to этот. Besides "до сих пор" and "сейчас", think "сегодня" = this day, literally

Yes, olde-timey word, usage left in a few fixed expressions. I would guess it lends a folksy tone when used instead of этот. I wonder if it's not like the phrase "this here" as in This here forum's a mighty nice one, you betcha!

I guess it can be used ironically.

Not used often at present, but adds a bit of ironical implication.
I often use it in informal speech because I think it sounds funny

And "сегодня": сего дня (of this day).

I thought it was an archaic pronoun, may be of the same type as Сей in Russian.

It's a pretty good example actually.

Anyone who doesn't think so must be a bit... rustic
