    Мы знаем свекровь

    Мы знаем свекровь.
Does it mean "We know your mil" or does it mean "We know your mil" or "We know a mil"? Is this a proper / usual sentence?

    It depends on the context.

This sentence sounds complete nonsence to me. "Мы" is a collective pronoun and how it can be applied to свекровь (wich means a husband's mother) I dunno. May be this phrase can be said by a harem though.
Please, correct my mistakes, except for the cases I misspell something on purpose!

Actually I got this sentence from Schuamm's Outline series on Russian Grammar but was not sure of the meaning as the sentence appears ambiguous to me.

Or two women married to brothers, and therefore sharing the same mother in law.

No. In this sentence, it is not clear who they talk about. I don't can even imagine a situation where this phrase would be suitable.

    - Мы знаем твою свекровь. (OK!)
    - Сочувствую вам. / I sympathize with you.

    - Мы знаем свекровь. (Bad!)
    - Чью свекровь? / Whose mil is she?
    Thanks for correcting me.
