    Полотна каждого живописца отличает свой неповторимый стиль.

    Полотна is plural but отличает is singular. Is that normal?

    Отличает does not refer to полотна. The subject is стиль. The predicate is отличает. Стиль отличает. It's sigular.

    The special inimitable style distinguishes pictures of every painter.
    Pictures of every painter are characterized by a special inimitable style.
    In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
