    What is a "полок"?
    Я взял палку и нож, мелки и бумагу и направился к холмам.

    Thanks.
    Is there another meaning? Maybe a manmade object for standing on.
    This is what Multitran returned:

    полок сущ. фразы | g-sort
    общ. lorry; float
    авт. dray
    геол. scabbold; walling scaffold
    горн. bridge; ramp; sollar; scaffold
    золот., геол. landing (Jewelia)
    стр. battery; soller
    тех. running bridge
    хим. platform

    I thought that
    lorry = грузовик
    bridge = мост
    battery = батарея
    platform = платформ
    scaffold = the metal structure on the outside of a building when doing construction (I don't know the russian term)
    ramp = an incline
    float = a platform on wheels used in parades, also a type of dessert

    I do not know what "dray", "scabbold", or "soller" mean in English
    Я взял палку и нож, мелки и бумагу и направился к холмам.

    Another common meaning is "berth" (in a train)
    lower/upper berth — нижняя/верхняя полка

    Anyway, we need the context.
