око - is this word still in use today?

I am wondering if the word "око" is still in use today. Is the saying "око за око" commonly understood?

It's commonly understood, but is considered outdated or/and poetic, so it's used nowadays only in idiomatic/expressions: "око за око", "в мгновение ока" (instantly, in the twinkling of an eye), etc.

Ещё есть всемирно-известные "Очи чёрные" :)

Око is commonly understandable. But nowadays it is used mainly in some idiomatic expressions and in poetry. Otherwise it sounds too archaic.
