The choice between the forms о and об has some nuances:

Generally, о is used with words starting with consonants, and об is used with words starting with vowels. But when using with accusative, об can be used with both consonants and vowels in contemporary language.
E.g.:
говорить об окне (prep.)
говорить о столе (prep.)
удариться об окно (acc.)
удариться об стол (acc.) («удариться о стол» sounds a bit archaic or bookish)

In addition, there exist a form обо. It is used with the words все, всё and мне only (or probably a few other words I forgot).
обо всех (prep.)
обо всех (acc.)
обо всём (prep.)
обо всё (acc.)
обо мне (prep.)
but об меня (acc.) — no consonant cluster here
