Леонтьев обращал внимание на резкие отличия

I started a new article as my Russian reading at home.
I am totally stuck in just the first paragraph. I don't understand a bit from the second sentence, having checked the dictionary. Rather than giving up too soon, may I ask you to translate the first paragraph (p. 360) for me, as a push?

    Please help.
    Thanks a lot.

Hey, the text is really weird (or at least the first passage), so here is my "free" translation of it.

"Russian is a non-family man" - that was a claim of Konstantin Leontyev. He pointed out on strick difference between russian national temper (mind \ mentality) and those nations which were close in language and religion and which russian society considered as "brother nations". Both greeks and bulgarians used to carry on bourgeois, anti-intellectual everyday routine while wide tastes of polish szlachta representatives remind more russian cossacks (with their spirit) in some way.

I am reading another article rather than this one. This article for me is really a headache.
