In my Russian learning, all the books and materials that I got say that the word order doesn't matter. However, I found this website that says that the word order should be: subject, adverb, verb, and complement Now I am confused! What do I'm missing? That's the link ... is in Spanish

Probably it is preferable (recommended) word order for the foreigners. When used this order you will be sure it is right one.

In fact word order in Russian is free but not completely free. And it can be tricky to detect which order is good and which is not so good. So as a first step a student can use recommended order.

It's true. Russian case system and some another peculiarities of the language provides you with possibility to change word order and do not "lose" a grammatical goverment of a sentence. While you preserve goverment, a sentence has a meaning.
