Does it have the same translation?
As was told in the Lampada's link, "-то" after nouns are "attention attractors". So it is something like "As for us, we ...".
In fact it is attention attractor in your first sentence too. But "suffixed" word is not noun and you may think of it as enhancer of accent.
"Раньше трава была зеленее" = "Grass was greener before"
"Раньше трава-то была зеленее" ~= "As for the grass, it was greener before".
"Раньше-то трава была зеленее" ~= "Grass was greener at least before"? Note, I do not know how to enhance "before" in english, so I just added "at least" to make this part bigger. Probably I am not accurate. True meaning is to raise importance of "before" word in the sentence.
