    запрос

What is the difference between запрос and other words meaning "request" such as просьба, требование, заявка?

    Thanks.

Просьба = please, when you ask someone to do someone
Требование = demand, when someone (i.e.: state) orders you to do something
Заявка = application, when you apply a petition to do something

Запрос = request, official asking of something for somewhere (i.e: state, your manager, etc.)

"Please"? I think you mean "appeal"

And I think you mean "when you ask someone to do something", not "someone"... *chuckles*

When you say "Please, give me something" it is просьба.

Again, it sounds like "appeal" (although this word has a slight sense of formality). I just thought you said that 'просьба = please'

"Запрос" is more like an official request one organization sends to another one, something like: "Please provide me the data for the last year...".

My dictionary says it is "letter of inquiry".

Another meaning of "запрос" (though it is related to the "letter of inquiry"), it can just mean "inquiry" in the context like "поисковый запрос в Google".

    So, generally it's "inquiry".
