    Excellent answer!
The first я in Дьяволёнок is pronounced as "ya" or like "i"?

Умственно отсталые ... my new pet-word.

    1. дьяволёнок (it is widespreaded ending for little (young) animals: кот/котёнок, лис/лисёнок, etc)
    2. "инвалиды" sounds strange a little. "идиоты" is perfect as far as I understand context.
    3. "представляет из себя" or "представляет собой" are correct ones.
    4. "символизирует"
    5. "символизирует".
"представляет из себя" cannot be used in 4,5.
    6. direct russian idiom is "заноза в заднице" (splinter in the ass)
    7. yes. Also we use noun "любитель" (liker/lover) to express that subject is our hobby, not profession. "Я - любитель.".
    8. I skip

It is rare word. You should avoid it until you get much more practice.
I can give only typical (maybe all of them) examples of usage:
"Ему больше не шутилось" - "He didn't want to joke anymore"
"Сейчас шутится легко" - "it is easy to joke now".
I do not recommend to try to construct sentences with this word by yourself.
