As a follow on from the thread about можно and возможно, can someone please tell me what is the difference between these words?
верно, наверно, наверное, наверняка
Thanks.
верно - in the meaning "maybe" it sounds a bit old and bookish
наверно, наверное - used as "maybe"
наверняка - mostly like "for sure"
Раньше было "наверное" = "наверняка" (если читать Достоевского, Толстого etc)
I thought верно mean "true". As my teacher used to say:
совершенно верно!
It does and it's the main meaning of it. The other meaning is "probably", "most likely".Quote:
