A copywriter is a person who writes text for clients, usualy in marketing or advertising.

And I somehow thought it is a copy righter someone who holds the rights for copying of some information.

In this context, "copy" is a noun.

It's an old word. It originally refered to the text provided to a "typesetter". A "typesetter" was a man who arranged small metal letters so that a machine could print the actual page (of a book, newspaper, magazine, etc.). Computers made them pretty much obsolete (but not entirely yet).
