    Re: THE VERB TO HAVE

    у меня есть брат
    That's right.
    У меня есть = I have.
However, in some contexts you may say "я обладаю" or "я имею" instead it. But "у меня есть" is most common.
You also may read it: http://lingvo.yandex.ru/en?text=have

ie how do i say i have, you have, he has. she has, we have etc etc
    i have = у меня есть
you have = у тебя есть
she has = у неё есть
we have = у нас есть
    Please, correct my mistakes

    Re: THE VERB TO HAVE

It may help if you think "with me there is X" instead of 'I have X'. While in English "I" is the subject of the sentence, in Russian the subject is that which is "had". And it becomes worse if you negate it, then there is no visible subject and the noun which would be the subject in a positive sentence takes genitive case: у меня есть брат = I have a brother, У меня нет брата = I do not have a brother. (Literally something like "With me none of brother".)
