How do you say "unapologetically"? As in
"he unapologetically reaffirmed his religious belief to her"
Мой варианты: Он решительно подтвердил / продемонстрировал ей свои религиозные взгляды.
Мой: Он демонстративно подтвердил ей свои религиозные убеждения (взгляды, воззрения).
Ahh...I see. Basically you're seeing it as "decisively"... I guess it's the closest thing. There don't seem to be any proper equivalents to this very special word.
"бесцеремонно" (= "без церемоний")
может быть "недвусмысленно"
still I don't understand the sample phrase :)
Well, a simpler one "he spoke unapologetically in the interview"
недвусмысленно and бесцеремонно are not bad, but I guess just like the word "challenging" you just don't have a word for "unapologetically" in Russian. Maybe because being unapologetic in a constant state for Russians ;)
Still don't understand. There are many ways to speak tn the interview.
Well, coming from the word structure it should be "without apologies" or without some formal phrases to soften the speech. So "бесцеремонно" looks a good analog.
Or it is just "impolitely"? Or it is like "insistively"? Or it is like "without being ready for compromises"?
One more variant: непримиримо.
Was I enough unapologetic? :D
Heh,
Well you nailed it by sayingImagine a situations where there might be something to apologize for. For instance Bush and the War in Iraq. We can say "Bush unapologetically spoke about the importance of the Iraq war"... so Bush isn't showing any signs of apology/regret about the criticism laden against him (for starting/continuing the war) or tries to soften the speech in any way. So pretty much exactly like you said.Quote:

В данном случае самым точным я считаю без зазрения/угрызений совести. Но это характеризует скорее Буша, а не его речь. Английское же предложение, мне кажется, характеризует именно речь. Хотя, по-моему, здесь не велика разница, на чем сделать акцент.
In this case the most exact phrase I think would be без зазрения/угрызений совести (not be conscience-stricken). But that describes Bush's personality and not his speech. On the contary, the English version is more about his speech. But I personally see little difference here which one to stress.
Yes, in the example Valda gave (about religious views), "unapologetically" means something very close to "candidly" or "bluntly" -- and we could also say "without ceremony" or "without beating around the bush."
The example with Bush is a bit different, it seems to me, because Bush knew perfectly well that many people were angry about the war and his critics wanted to hear a literal apology from him.
