Because it's a time indication? :| ""During" the whole way"? (=very bad english - Russians, please disregard :lol: )

Т.е. на протяжении какого-то отрезка времени. "Всю дорогу" - значит, всё время, пока она шла/ехала.
Although literally, вся дорога expresses distance, in this context it is a time expression and therefore is in the accusative.
Remember also, only the subject can be in the nominative case.
