    surpass, outreach, outperform, exceed

In Greek for all these verbs we just have one verb that can be used interchangeably in the cases:
    1. The horsepower of car A outperforms that of car B
    2. Supply of housed exceed the corresponding demand
    3. The profitability of project A surpasses that of project B
    4. She had to outreach her opponent to win the fencing match.

The word превышать can do the "dirty" work of translating everything effectively?
Чем больше слов, тем меньше они стоят.

    1-3 Yes
4 превосходить (превзойти). Person cannot превышать another person. Превосходить, быть лучше, быть сильнее,... should be used.

If you want to improve yourself you must exceed your limits!
    Google translate gives me: перегнать?
    How about переходить пределы?
Чем больше слов, тем меньше они стоят.

When it comes to limits, Russians say: выходить за пределы or выходить за рамки.

    I'd use:

Если вы хотите становиться лучше, то вам необходимо выходить за собственные пределы.

    Something like that.

    выходить за собственные пределы
Never heard such kind of phrase, but there is a set phrase "превосходить(превзойти) себя".
Indeed, now I see Превосходить as a very versatile word, even better than превышать.

That's because you haven't tried that yet

I don't like the phrase as well, but there you go. Also превзойти себя doesn't necessarily mean that you surpassed your limits. Wording is important in this philosophical BS.
