Thread: Plurals of глубокий

This is pretty much a cross between my last two questions!

Одна глубокая тарелка
Две глубокие тарелки
Пять глубоких тарелок

I understand тарелка/и/ок, it's глубокий that's the problem. For "one", it's nominative singular. For "five", it's genitive plural. What I don't understand is why for "two" it's apparently nominative plural? Why isn't it genitive plural?

No, Bob, this was a similar question but not the same. I didn't know that for feminine nouns, plurals of 2, 3, 4 use nominative plural, not genitive plural. I do now!

I do believe it was exactly the same question. The sentence you asked about was "Здесь три белые тарелки." And "тарелка" is feminine. Then some other people and I explained that both versions are possible for the feminine nouns: "три белые тарелки" and "три белых тарелки" are both OK.

The same as "две глубокие тарелки" and "две глубоких тарелки" are possible.

Finally, if the noun is feminine, it can often take nominative plural: две белые тарелки = две белых тарелки. This is only true for feminine nouns. For masculine and neuter, only one form is possible.
