list of how to say man/woman of each country?
Hi, is there a list anywhere of how people from each country are called in Russian?
e.g.
Американец
Канадец
Ирландец
Италианец (sp?)
Китаец (how do you say Chinese woman?)
these ones are pretty easy and straight forward
but how do I say Russian man or woman?
French man / French woman?
Turkish man / woman?
Японец? (ok I'm just guessing at this one)
Swiss
Czech
Polish ( is it Поляк?)
etc...
Re: list of how to say man/woman of each country?
Американец / американка
Канадец / канадка
Ирландец / ирландка
Итальянец / итальянка
Китаец / китаянка
россиянин / россиянка (when you talk about citizenship)
русский / русская (ethnicity)
French ppl: француз / француженка
Turkish: турок / турчанка
японец / японка (you guessed correctly :))
Swiss ppl: швед / шведка
Czech ppl: чех / чешка
Polish ppl: поляк / полька or полячка
also..
испанец / испанка
грек / гречанка (not "гречка")
сомалиец / сомалийка
болгарин / болгарка
молдаванин / молдаванка
венгр / венгерка (Hungarians)
монгол / монголка
датчанин / датчанка (Danes)
Hmm, I suspect there's a pattern here, but it's probably easier just to memorize the most common ethnicities..

Darn! I did it again! :D I'm sorry, Johanna.
I sure know the difference, but in English I confuse these words all the time... :wall:
