how do you know which imperfect verbs have a past passive participle?
eg: варить- варенный but гореть doesn't have one.
how do you know which imperfect verbs have a present passive participle?

You read "501 Russian verbs" or "The big silver book of Russian verbs".
Most (if not all) transitive verbs do have passive particples, both past amd present. Intransitive ones, of course, don't.
Гореть is an intransitive verb, and as such, it cannot have passive participles.
For the word "гореть" we use the past passive participles "жжённый", "сожжённый". For the present passive participle we use "сжигаемый". So if you can't build a passive participle from some word, just look for the synonym.Quote:

What's about "горелый", "сгоревший", "обгоревший", "несгораемый"?Quote:
