I am reading a sentence in Russian: У нас, наверное, весь дом на ушах стоял.

I just do not understand the last part, на ушах стоял, because when I tried to translate it, I got: stood onto ears, which does not make sense to me.

Please help me understand these words.

стоял doesn't mean "I stood", there is no "Я", it refers to "дом" i.e. "the house stood".

стоять на ушах = to go mad / go on the rampage / turn oneself inside out.

У нас, наверное, весь дом на ушах стоял. = It seems that the whole house has gone mad... (depends on context).
