Thread: Grammar: не очень / очень не

When referring to actions in Russian:

не очень means slightly
очень не means hugely

Она не очень любила вставать рано. = She slightly didn't like to get up early.
Она очень не любила вставать рано. = She hugely didn't like to get up early.
*Where Slightly and Hugely are just principal translations.

Guys, can you help me out as to express these two into proper English?
What is "In her family, any expression of feeling was frowned upon" more like? "не очень" or "очень не"?
What is "She didn't like to get up early very much" more like? "не очень" or "очень не"?

Any expression of feelings in her family was frowned upon. Не очень. To make it очень не - Any expression of feelings in her family was not tolerated.

The second one is не очень also. To make it очень не - She really didn't like to get up early. Or even stronger - She hated to get up early.
