    From

    Hi there,

    Quick question. Could someone briefly explain what the key differences are in the usage of из, c and oT. I know that they all roughly mean from but are used in different ways.

    Thank youuuu!!

    It depends on where the object ,wich is moving from X, originally was:

    a) inside X => из X
    b) on X => c X
    c) near X => от X
    Please, correct my mistakes, except for the cases I misspell something on purpose!

    If you go into в something, then you come out из of it.
    If you go onto/into something на, then you come out/off с of it.
    If you go up to до/к something, then you come away от from it.

    Re: From

    Great, thank you. It makes more sense now.
    Since I've got this thread up and running I may as well ask another small question, instead of starting another thread...

    So, could someone tell me what the difference is between сам and себя?
    Cheers

    "сам" - nominative case
    "себя" - the same word in genitive or accusative case

    Например.....
    "Я сделал домашнуюю работу сам" - "I did my homework on my own"
    Или же... Feel the difference
    "Я увидел себя в зеркале" - I saw myself in the mirror...
    Does it make sense now?
    Если нет,могу осветить вопрос более подробно

    Actually, it's better to start another thread in these cases with the new topic clearly labeled so that in the future people can find things easily. It's more difficult to find things if, say, a discussion of the word ‘cat’ is somehow buried in a discussion of the word ‘mushroom.’
