    A Drive By

There are so many verbs of motion...

    What is the expression:

Drive by (the theatre, the bank, etc...) --
as in let us drive by and take a look (but don't stop).

Contrast that expression with the expression:

Drive to (the theatre, ...) -- a destination.

I guess I am looking for the imperative, but I don't know whether to use на or some other prep...

as in let us drive by and take a look - давай проедем мимо театра/рядом с театром, и посмотрим.
Drive to the theater - Поехать в театр

there's an old joke that goes
пролетарии это те кто всегда пролетает
a play on words proletariat and пролетать, the formet means the same as in english, the working classes, and the latter literally means to fly past (вот пуля прлетела - here a bullet flew past) but it can also mean to fail to get whatever you were trying to get - я стоял в очередеи целый час и прямо перед моим носом все закончилось и я как всегда опять пролетел.- I stood in line a whole hour and then right before it was my turn they ran out of the stuff and I failed to get it again as usual.

Sorry for off-topic, but when I saw the title—"A drive-by"—I immediately thought about black cars, guys in black hats, tommy-guns and stuff....
