Could anyone please explain the difference between the words "дарить" and "давать" ? My dictionary translates both as "to give", but I suppose they aren't exact eqvivalents?

Дарить means to give something as a gift(often on special occasions).
Давать - to giveQuote:

So давать is "to give" as in "hand over"? Right?Quote:

You don't conjugate the following verb? Alright.
If you use a perfective verb, you use the Мы form. If it is an imperfective, you use the infinitive.Quote:

Remember Let's in English is short for "Let us"
Давай есть пирог - Let's eat pie
Давай съедим пирог - Let's eat up the pie.
Ok, thanks TATY
Very often "давать/дать" (apart from the main meaning "to give") is also used colloquially in the meaning of "to lend" or "to pass".Quote:

I got into trouble in the first years in Australia because I used "give" in the meaning of "lend", which can't be done in English.
"(по)дарить" means to give as a gift and explicitly "for good", you never expect it to be returned.
As other users said давай, давайте also means "let's"
Sounds like an expensive error to make. :)Quote:
