BEcause показывать\показать is followed by dative.
покажи мне любовь- Show (to) me love.
Here is not dative but genetive. The word "виду" simply a colloquial form from "вида". So, the phrase "не показывай виду (g.c.), что ты расстроен" is completely the same as "не показывай (не подавай) вида (g.c.), что ты расстроен".Quote:

I'm not sure what do you mean, but I think that genitive forms with "у" are older than forms with "a". Sometimes thay were probably the only forms for that case. Now they are no more literary. But they are still in use.Quote:
