    Usually we speak "на машине" - nevertheless passenger is inside, not on the roof ^)

    I would say "Я возил его в своей машине", in case его is inanimate (hammer, for example).
    And I would say "Я возил его на машине", if он is, for example, my uncle.
    "Невозможно передать смысл иностранной фразы, не разрушив при этом её первоначальную структуру."
