Thread: Classes 4-6

I'm afraid this isn't quite the proper forum for this question, but I couldn't think of a better place to put it. Sorry

Does anyone know whether, in Russian schools, Pushkin, Tolstoy, and Chekhov are generally read in Classes 4-6? What do they read for literature?

No, they are read in higher classes. Tolstoy is read in classes 9-11 I think. Pushkin in classes 6-9 and Chekhov... well, maybe 7-9.

But I don't remember exactly. It seems to have been so long ago

It depends. Separate poems and tales by Pushkin, short stories by Tolstoy, Kashtanka and Vanka by Chekhov are read at elementary level. Serious works are read in high school. They are taught chronologically: 18th century in 9th grade, 19th century in 10th and 20th century in 11th.

The answer was:
Tolstoy (War and Peace), Dostoyevsky (Crime and Punishment), Chekhov (short stories), Turgenev (Отцы и дети), and a lot more.
So the question is what do they do in all other grades?
P.S. Perhaps his russian literature school program is so strange cause we live in Ukraine.

That is alot of books, in Norway we had to suffer through maximum five books... Oh yay to Norwegian literacy! Or maybe I have just repressed the memories?

I found a forum where school literature program is discussed.
These books kids read in 11th grade (some of them are mandatory, others are not, it depends on school and teacher).
The books marked with bold were at my school program as well.

Wow, a very advanced program!
In fact I am grateful to my school for that they didn't have such great things in their program - teachers thus had no chance to pollute them with their sick and ignorant judgements. In school, even the greatest and the most brilliant thing readily becomes rotten.
... and, many of these writings were not created for children! One should stop sucking milk before he can enjoy the taste of wine!
