Can some explain or translate these words:

Хлюпали чифирно-чёрный чай, что перекипятили на самодельном мангале.

мангал (жаровня) = brazier

чифирь = very strong tea

смурной = sombre, gloomy (ср. "пасмурный")

чифирь - is not just a very strong tea. It has some narcotic effects. Its origins are from prisons and prison camps. It is prepared by decoction of large quantities of tea in relatively small volume of water.
In the proces of decoction a guanine (гуанин) (C5H5N5O) is released (an alcaloid that kills the nerve cells).
It causes a state that resembles an alcoholic intoxication but I don't advise anyone to drink it for it much more derimental than alcohol.
