I understand that снова, опять, and вновь mean "again". Are these adverbs equivalent or is there a difference in nuance or style?

they are equal, but the last is the rarest in use, the first is a little bit oldfashionable and the second is the most common.

Hm... interesting...

Not sure if that's 100% true, but to me the only difference seems to be in the frequency of use in the modern colloquial language. Starting from the most frequent to the least frequent:

опять -> снова -> вновь

"Снова" and "опять" are totally equal; "вновь" is more bookish.

think of вновь = anew. It's bookish like that.

снова - здорова , опять - 25

есть ещё - обратно - используется в том же значении , хотя совершенно необоснованно

Во многих деревнях говорят : "Обратно дождь пошёл" ( ага )

Strangely enough, the phrase "вновь избранным президентом стал Медведев" is a true fact, though "Медведевa вновь избрали президентом" is not.

Don't you see, that in the first case this words is adressed to the word president and in the second - to Medvedev.

Maybe it's just to convey an excitement at the fact that the president in our country was actually elected again!! How wonderful!!

Seriously,

вновь избранным = новоизбранным = newly elected

"новоизбранный" is more common and "вновь избранный" is more formal/bookish.

1. Снова, опять.
2. Недавно, только что.

Strangely, that native speakers don't know that. It's commonly used, at least in written texts.
