    as... as

I'm posting this knowing full well it's the dumbest thing I've ever written anywhere and ever, but I just wanted to be sure. What's the proper way to express as... as (as in "I am as tall as Ivan") in Russian? I think it's just the adjective and then как + nominative, but is there supposed to be a comma or something too?

Thanks in advance! I would appreciate it if answers could be in English, since obviously my Russian could use a tiny tiny bit of improvement

    Yes.
"Я такой же высокий, как и Иван"
    Comma is required here.
    Sometimes 'и' is omitted-
"Я такой же высокий, как Иван"
Russian is tough, let’s go shopping!

Thanks so much! Is there any specific rule for when the и has to be there and when not? Is one way more colloquial and one way formal? Or is it just basically a matter of choice?

not quite. Падеж зависит от контекста.

    С прилагательными:
Иван такой высокий, как я. Ivan is as tall as I am.

Она сказала, что никогда не видела такого симпатичного человек, как я!

Я никогда не писал такому неприятному человеку, как он.

Санкт-Петербург не такой большой город как Москва.

Этот яблоко такое красное, как тот.

    С короткими прилагательными:
    (возможно? кто-нибудь не подскажет?)

    С наречиями:
Он пишет так ужасно, как она.

Не смотрел в учебнике, может быть ошибки!!

In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

Thanks for the replies! Unfortunately, I was unable to understand any of them... would someone mind translating for me?

dawhite, those sentences were fairly simple so I would say that I think you are asking questions that are beyond yourself at this point. I would stick with the textbook and just plow through it. And the second year book too. By that time you will probably have the answers to these questions.

As you can all see, my Russian is going to hell in a handbasket.

Знатокам просьба перевести на русский эту нашу колоритную идиому!
